Westerns, the unsung Romance Reads.....

ROMANCE READING COUNTRY GIRL STYLE....
Ever since learning how to read as a child my first pick thanks to my Dad was a western novel... My two favorite authors to this day in the genre are Louis La'Mour and Larry McMurty because they both have captured in books turned into movies the "romance" of my all time favorite hero the "Cowboy"!
Louis La'Mour may not be thought of as a Romance writer, but he did write stories that are not only very well researched for their locations and subject matter but also allow the reader to find some good love stories for a few of his book characters... I will freely admit you will not find very many HEA's in a western romance, however in my opinion they are still good reads....
My personal all time favorite leading male in movies of all genres has to be Mr. Sam Elliot who played Con Vallian which was a Louis La'Mour western book adapted to television movie in 1987... My love for Elliot as a romantic lead started when I was a teen and to this day the gruff spoken, weathered actor has my attention whatever movie he chooses to play a part in...
Granted The Quick And The Dead was more of a "pining for another man's wife" romance than an actual "guy gets gal" story but when you read the book or watch the movie the sheer gallantry of the character played by Elliot is more "romantic" than an actual love scene is in a lot of the books that I read today!
In 1989 the movie Lonesome Dove brought to the fore a new love for westerns that people who had read the book written by the author years earlier already knew about... The book was part of a series which when made into a made for television mini-series in 1989 and again in the mid-90's did not make it very long, however the novel itself has stood the test of time and still enthralls lovers of the western to this day!
I will forever remember my first love of a good western "romance" when reading my current favorite authors of the paranormal/highlanders genre books I favor today Amanda AshleyDiana GabaldonJeaniene FrostKaren Marie Moning, Paula QuinnLynsay Sands, or Maria Zannini to name a few...
Thanks to some lucky Internet surfing one day have found a new site that has introduced me to some "Modern Western Romance" authors that probably will be more in keeping with what people who like "erotic cowboy reads" are looking for... For some Fun head over to Wild&Wicked Cowboys site, they will get you in the mood for some "cowboy romance"!
Any suggestions from anyone?
