Vicious Grace by M.L.N. HanoverMMPB 367 pages
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Book SynopsisFor the first time in forever, Jayné Heller’s life is making sense. Even if she routinely risks her life to destroy demonic parasites that prey on mortals, she now has friends, colleagues, a trusted lover, and newfound confidence in the mission she inherited from her wealthy, mysterious uncle. Her next job might just rob her of all of them. At Grace Memorial Hospital in Chicago, something is stirring. Patients are going AWOL and research subjects share the same sinister dreams. Half a century ago, something was buried under Grace in a terrible ritual, and it’s straining to be free. Jayné is primed to take on whatever’s about to be let loose. Yet the greatest danger now may not be the huge, unseen force lurking below, but the evil that has been hiding in plain sight all along—taking her ever closer to losing her body, her mind, and her soul. . . .
My Thoughts
This is the one I was waiting for, the story that comes full circle with Jayne and the others fighting and winning but at the same time losing. The secrets uncovered in this one will turn your ideas of what is bad and what is good upside down, just like it does for Jayne and her friends. This is the most tumultuous of the plot lines in the series so far, it intersects past and present and is at times confusing and depressing and yet you have to read on in sick fascination to see how the ending turns out. I give the author kudos for the mix of emotions that the reader feels while traveling on the journey with the characters, it is one heck of a roller coaster ride!
