The toughest case yet for Greywalker and P.I. Harper Blaine, "a great heroine" (New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris), has arrived.
Harper Blaine was your average small-time P.I. until she died-for two minutes. Now Harper is a Greywalker-walking the line between the living world and the paranormal realm. And she's discovering that her new abilities are landing her in all sorts of "strange cases."
But for Harper, her own case may prove the most difficult to solve. Why did she-as opposed to others with near-death experiences-become a Greywalker? When Harper digs into her own past, she unearths some unpleasant truths about her father's early death as well as a mysterious puzzle. Forced by some very demanding vampires to take on an investigation in London, she soon discovers her present troubles in England are entangled with her dark past back in Seattle-and her ultimate destiny as a Greywalker.
"Vanished" for me is the most interesting and the best reading experience in the stories about Harper Blaine so far in the series...
In this book Harper is plagued with questions of why she is a Greywalker, why she is the only one and goes in search of answers by visiting her estranged mother in Los Angeles.. In the investigating process Harper finds out that her father committed suicide and that, along with her cousin, she had "died" when a young girl only Harper was brought back..
The personal investigation into her past is put on hold when she gets an urgent message to return to Seattle for a meeting with the head of the Seattle Vampires and takes a job investigating the goings on with his holdings in London.
Once arriving in London, Harper gets right to work and in the process finally meets another Greywalker, Marsden...
Upon speaking with Marsden, Harper begins to get an inkling of what her transformation into a Greywalker means...
Harper finds her ex-boyfriend Will Novak has been taken by the rivals of her employer Edward and has to rescue him from torture and a certain death. After her London adventures are over, armed with more knowledge and a greater understanding of her powers in "The Grey" Harper returns to Seattle hell bent on finding out more.
As in every book so far there are unanswered questions and unresolved issues that lead the reader on to the next book. This one moved faster, got more involved in the actual use of "The Grey" and while it gave us more information on what was going on we are still mostly not sure of the why!
Looking ahead to reading book 5, "Labryinth" and I am hoping to get the why answered...
