Roadkill (Cal Leandros, #5)
New from the national bestselling author of Deathwish
Cal talking about gypsy Abelia Roo.
Niko could have died because of her. I don’t forget things like that…not ever,
I wanted a little payback for those she’d cheated in the past. For those she’d
cheat in the future. For what she’d allowed to happen to my brother.
For good old fashion revenge.
Once, while half-human Cal Leandros and his brother Niko were working on a
case, an ancient gypsy queen gave them a good old-fashioned backstabbing.
They barely made it out alive. Now, as their P.I. business teeters on
insolvency, guess who shows up with a job?
The gypsy crone wants them to find a stolen coffin. Cal would rather help
her intoone, but this coffin contains an evil known as the Plague of the
World–and it makes the Black Death seem like a fond memory.
But the thief has already left town, so the Leandros brothers are going
on the road. And if they’re very, very lucky, there might even
be a return trip…

It's time to lock, load, and hit the road...

I have nothing but the highest regard for the writing
skill of author Rob Thurman. She sets the bar for me
in the genre of Dark Urban Fantasy. Once again, she
leaps over the bar and proves why I am in love with
the Leandros brothers series!!
Let us imagine what it would be like to be Cal and Niko, growing up with nothing but hardships and each other in life as their only ally. Now take it to the next step where one of the brothers is only human on the outside and the worst kind of nightmare monster on the inside and you have a tale worth telling!!!
Since the first story in Nightlife the reader is yanked into a world that is dark, gritty and unforgivingly harsh and realistic. We are taken on a journey where the one refrain that holds true for Cal and Niko is the love the brothers share for each other, no matter what!!!
This adventure we are going on a road trip, the main objective of which is not to become Roadkill. The boys drag along Robin Goodfellow, his mummy cat Salome, werewolf (friend-with-benefits) Delilah and along the way pick up Rafferty and Catcher.
To say that this becomes the road trip from hell goes without mentioning, we expect no less from the boys and their past mis-adventures.
I am very glad that I won this book when it released back in March from Melissa , and even happier that I waited to read it this past week. I needed something dark, gritty and totally emotionally wrenching to read and as always found it when picked up the latest in the Cal and Niko story line... I am so enthralled every time Rob Thurman releases each of the installments, the plots are fast paced and full of bits and pieces that keep the reader on their toes with every turn of the page. There is so much detail in each story, so many little things that set these books apart from others out there.
The characters are growing in depth in each book, we are not left wanting even though the books are out a year apart. If you have not read any of the books in this series, why not? If however you are not one for hard core life and death, make it out by the skin of your teeth and kill anything that tries to kill you first types of books maybe you should leave it alone. The stories are very very graphic and dark in their realism, however they are at the same time very poignant and have such a beautiful symmetry in the telling that they are worth reading and will give you probably some of the best hours with a book that you could ever hope to spend!!! I am now a total fan girl of Cal Leandros, he is everything you would not want in a child, lover or friend in many respects. In others he is everything you would want and more!!
