Reading is such a joy to me, it has been my favorite hobby since early childhood. Picking up a book written by Christine Warren is like slipping into a pair of comfortable shoes, easy and smooth and very welcome after a long stressful day. I have had the pleasure of reading about The Others since May of 2006 release of "Wolf At The Door" followed by books 2-8 in the 4 years past. When "Born To Be Wild" released in March of 2010 it sat on my TBR shelves for over a month until the pages were cracked open and the book was devoured in 2 days time !!!
"Born To Be Wild" is the story of Sheriff Eli Pace who is a Were-Lion Other and Josie Barrett the all too human veterinarian in Stone Creek Oregon where humans and Others live in mostly peaceful harmony. That peace is shattered when a Female Wolf is discovered injured in the woods by Eli and brought into Josie's clinic for care the "wolf" turns out to be part of the local Lupine pack of Others. This discovery is only the beginning of a series of events that affects the entire population of Stone Creek, human and Other alike..
Faced with a strange new viral infection leaves veterinarian Josie Barrett at her wits end and ultimately facing the reality that the fate of the Others in Stone Creek rest in the hands of a real life "Mad Scientist". When this happens and it also threatens the very existence of Eli, whom Josie has bonded with in every way imaginable to both human and Other, things happen fast. We are taken on a very intense journey from beginning to end and as in all of the books in the Others series Christine Warren has delivered a rich tapestry of what it means to truly work together in spite of differences both real and imagined. If real life dramas could work out as well as the dramas revealed in these wonderfully written stories then we would live in a nicer world than we do.. I am now happy to be waiting for the next installment in the series coming out in the Fall of 2010 and is called "Prince Charming Doesn't Live Here Anymore". At this time I have found no info out on book other than release date and publisher info, have at end of post from Goodreads.com.
SPOILERS ALERT
My favorite part of the entire book takes place in Chapter Sixteen when Eli makes this particular passionate declaration to Josie when they are at an impasse as to where there relationship stands: "I am utterly and completely enthralled by you. I don't know why I didn't see it before, or how I wasted three years living in the same town with you without ever so much as really seeing you. The only way I can explain it is to say I was a complete idiot. For some reason, I didn't realize you existed as more than a name and a profession. And it kills me to think about how much time I wasted because of it. I could kick myself. Except that I've come to understand that it doesn't matter. All that matters is now that I've met you and spoken to you and felt you and tasted you, I'm done. That's it. You're the end for me. I am not going anywhere, so I'm going to suggest that you don't even try to get rid of me."
I do not know about you but if a man told me that whether an Alien from Mars or had green horns on his head I think maybe just maybe he would make me think twice about him being a "keeper" or just walking away from what could be the worst mistake of my life!! Luckily for Josie, Eli is a "keeper" and at the end of the day they triumph and all is well that ends well!

Josie Barrett brings out the animal in men. Literally. As the local veterinarian in a town that’s approximately seventy percent Others—mostly shapeshifters—Josie deals with beastly situations all the time. It’s practically part of her job description. But when the werewolves of Stone Creek, Oregon, start turning downright feral, Josie smells a rat—among other, more dangerous critter.
Teaming up with the ferociously sexy Eli Pace, a full-time sheriff and part-time were-lion, Josie tries to contain the shapeshifting problem before it spreads like a virus. But when more shifters get infected—and stuck in their animal forms—the fur really begins to fly. Josie and Eli have to find the cause, fast, before the whole town goes to the dogs. But first, they have to wrestle with a few animal urges of their own.
